Unveiling: Photography and Ceramics by Angela Tier
Many Egyptian gods were depicted as bird-like, with the most prominent being Horus, whose sons became the symbolic protectors and transporters of the deceased to the immortal realm through canopic jars.
Birds can also be signals of an omen, a sense of anxiety felt at the unexpected winged visitor flying into the home, or the haunting sound of an owl calling in the night.
With this exhibition, Angela is bringing those subconscious archetypes to the surface for conscious analysis. She is looking into the way grieving temporarily changes our perspective or alters our belief about life after death.
Since graduating in 2005 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts with distinction and a BFA media prize in sculpture, Angela has exhibited in numerous group shows as well as entering award-based exhibitions in which she has earned highly commended from the 2011 Whanganui Arts Review as well as earning the first place Alumni Prize for the Quay School of the Arts Graduate show, Real NZ Art Exhibition, also in 2011. Unveiling is her first solo show and we welcome you to join us for the opening at 5:30pm 18 February at Tree Object Space Desire, 37 Moutoa Quay, Whanganui.
