Opening at TREE object | space | desire @ 5:30pm on the 18 February 2016.
Unveiling is an exhibition that explores the symbolism of birds in relation to grief and death. Artist Angela Tier has created photographs and ceramics which investigate this subject, leaving the viewer open to reflect upon their own beliefs about the connection between birds being the passing carriers of loved ones’ souls to a place beyond our mortal world.
This is not an uncommon idea when you relate it to popular cult movies such as The Crow, religious depictions of angels having the bodies of humans and the wings of a bird, as well as the Egyptians, who believed in the afterlife and placed great significance on birds.
TREE was saddened to find our beautiful gallery had been affected by the recent flooding here in Whanganui. We were very glad that we had some warning and were able to remove the artworks in time to minimise possible damage.
We count ourselves very lucky to have such wonderful friends who came to help us clear out the gallery and begin the clean up! Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts!!
We will be having a big re:opening once we are all clean and sparkly! Keep an eye on our facebook page and website for details on this event! We would love you to come along and support the TREE. In the meantime our webstore is always open.
Artists supporting artists! TREE celebrates creativity.
